Cats make one of the most satisfying sounds in the world: they purr. Almost all cats make us feel good about ourselves because they let us know they feel good about us, about themselves, and about our relationship with them. A purring cat is a form of high praise, like a gold star on a test paper. It is reinforcement of something we would all like to believe about ourselves - that we are nice. - Roger Caras

FAQ

How do I participate in the Lifetime Care Program?

You must first contact ACRF and register your pet in the Lifetime Care Program.  Once your paperwork is complete, you will receive a written confirmation of placement guarantee.

My pet has a medical condition. Are you able to give the care required?

Yes.  We are affiliated with several veterinary clinics in the greater Atlanta area and we have chosen the best.

What is your policy on euthanasia?

While we are an animal protection group, we will only consider putting a pet to sleep when the quality of life for the animal has deteriorated to the point of physical pain.

What happens once ACRF receives the call to pick up my pet?

Your pet will receive a loving reception from the committed staff of ACRF, where the mental and physical well-being of the animal is our primary concern.

How will ACRF re-home my pet?

Studies and experience show that it is in the best interest of pets to be in a home environment.  While ACRF strives to create a “home-like” environment, it is still not home.  We carefully screen all potential adopters to make the right match for your pet, according to your standards.

What happens if my pet is re-homed?

If your pet is re-homed, ACRF will maintain joint ownership of the pet and maintain regular contact with the adopter and the pet throughout its life.

What happens to my pet when it dies?

If you have made pre-planned arrangements for your pet, we will honor your plans even if the pet has been re-homed.

What happens if I am incapacitated and must relinquish my pet?

Some people must move to an assisted living facility or a nursing home, and continued contact with their pet provides them comfort.  If you are in a similar situation and must give up your pet, if locality permits arrangements can be made for the pet to visit you.

What documents does ACRF need to have for the Lifetime Care Program?

Documentation of potential funding and completed Pet Profile forms.  We also request periodic updates to address any changes.

Do you have recommended legal language that I should use in my Will?

Yes.  We will be glad to provide suggested language upon your request.

I want to enroll my pet in your program but don’t want to finance it through my Will.  Do you have suggestions for alternative funding?

There are several alternatives that require less time to process and offer tax benefits to your estate:  life insurance policy, stock, mutual funds or unused retirement IRAs.  Please consult your legal and financial advisors to decide which option is best for you.

What if I want to donate more than the suggested amount?

ACRF always welcomes additional funding.  All monies benefit your beloved pet and other rescues that do not have loving benefactors of their own.

Can I leave funds to establish a program or construct a building at ACRF in honor of my pet?

We would be glad to discuss creating and naming a program or building in honor of you or your beloved pet.
